Specialized in the supply of innovative solutions to their customers, our partner G.E. Gilbert has distinguished themselves in a 3rd cost-reduction project with one of the biggest aluminum plant in North-America.
After the success of the 2 first projects completed with their customer, G.E. Gilbert has been appointed to evaluate another problem: the short life-expectancy of the aluminum scum shovels. The end-customer had to replace the scum shovel every 4-6 weeks, resulting in high replacement cost for both the part to replace as well as the maintenance & downtime costs.
In collaboration with the engineering & maintenance departments’ management staff, G.E. Gilbert has proposed a modified design and alloy of the part.
After several tests, the part has performed to a point that it lasts 2 to 3 times the life-expectancy of the original products (12-14 weeks vs 4-6 weeks). This significant improvement has contributed to a drastic reduction of the maintenance and downtime costs.
But that is not the end of it: The new part cost 30% less than the original one!
